Understanding Respiratory ICU Care
When a patient cannot breathe adequately on their own, their organs are starved of oxygen. Respiratory ICU care involves the use of advanced medical technology to support or take over the function of the lungs until the patient recovers.
This care is provided by a multidisciplinary team of pulmonologists, critical care nurses, and respiratory therapists working together to stabilize the patient.
Conditions Requiring ICU Care
Admission to the respiratory intensive care unit may be necessary for:

Interventions and Support
Patients in the ICU are continuously monitored. Heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate are tracked 24/7.
Advanced support may include non-invasive ventilation (like CPAP or BiPAP) or invasive mechanical ventilation (life support) where a breathing tube is inserted into the airway to deliver oxygen directly to the lungs.
